As technology continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace, giving back to the community and creating opportunities that empower today's learners with the skills, confidence, and insight to thrive has never been more essential. With this shared purpose in mind, the State of Kindness Foundation and the University of Niagara Falls Canada recently partnered to offer a workshop that invited students to explore the power of artificial intelligence and the creativity and intention needed to use it.

Workshop highlights

Led by Wael Brahim, an Assistant Professor in UNF's Master of Arts in Digital Media and Global Communications program, the session introduced students to the future of AI in education through an accessible, engaging approach. Brahim walked attendees through practical strategies for working with tools like ChatGPT, covering steps that can be used to gather information, shift tone, refine structure, and generate quality responses. Students were especially engaged when they had the chance to use the technology themselves, sparking moments of genuine excitement.

Student engagement and ethical conversations

"Watching the students' faces light up as they witnessed AI speaking naturally and carrying out physical actions was truly memorable," said Brahim. "What meant even more was seeing their excitement quickly turn into thoughtful conversations about ethics, best practices, and responsible use. Moments like that remind me why teaching AI in education matters — students not only explore what the technology can do, but how to use it responsibly."

Collaboration and impact

"At State of Kindness the pillars of our organization have been to inspire, empower and connect our students with knowledge, support, and community. Working with UNF is an example of how we successfully collaborate with the community to bring the power of knowledge to our students. This collaboration has showcased the true nature of what it is to be educators and mentors — working together with the shared goal of guiding our future leaders on a path towards success."

Looking ahead

This collaboration offered a meaningful opportunity for students to connect and learn from an expert in the field and gain insights that will help set them on a path toward success — one that is rooted in curiosity, support, and innovative thinking.
